The Power of One ~ Part 1

Happy 1st Day of Spring!

I Love Spring ~ Ink Drawing – © 2012 Dora Ficher

Spring is my favorite of all seasons. I get that feeling of energy all around me.

Talking about energy…I have the pleasure of working with my good friend Frumi Cohen this year on her yearly musical she does with the 6th grade at Plymouth Meeting Friends School. I have been helping out with the sound, the program, the sets etc…for many years. This year I have been with Frumi since the beginning, with the auditions back in January.

This year Frumi is documenting the whole process in a series of videos. I am filming the videos while she is directing the kids. I just film, not edit. Frumi herself is doing the editing. Following is the 1st video of this year’s play: “The Power of One” Here you can get an idea of what the Musical is about.

At the same time I decided to do an art project that would be related to this musical. That’s when I started doing My “Doors Series”.  I will be talking more in depth about this in future posts.

The 6th graders did an art project as well. They came to my studio 4 at a time with one of their teachers and they each did an encaustic piece related to the play.

Following are some photos of the 1st group at the studio. I was impressed at their enthusiasm of working with the encaustic medium.

Happy Monday my friends!

Hoping everyone had a great weekend! I had a busy but very fun one.

I am in the process of updating my website in the next few weeks so stay tuned to see my newest Art work.

I wanted to also let you know that I have opened up 2 Etsy Shops:

The 1st one: http://www.etsy.com/shop/doraficherArt is where you can purchase my “Original Art”

The 2nd one: http://www.etsy.com/shop/doraficher is where you can purchase ‘Prints” of all my Ink drawings, watercolors, oils, acrylics and of course my Encaustic work.

If there is something you would like but can’t find there, please let me know.

I am also in the process of setting up “Encaustic Workshops” for anyone interested in learning all about Encaustic and it’s history as well as how to paint with Enacustic paints. Drop me a note here if this is something that you would be interested in doing.

Today’s Daily share is an encaustic painting: “The Passage”

I continue to play with shapes. Most of these doodles I do are ideas I work on for my encaustic paintings. I am now thinking of doing a series on shapes, transparencies and space. So I have been playing around with many different ideas. Here is one of them.

I am leaving on Thursday the 2nd of June for the 5th International Encaustic Conference organized by Founder/Director Joanne Mattera.

The Conference is taking place in Provincetown, MA. located on the tip of Cape Cod.

I am taking a train to Boston and from there I am taking a fast Ferry to Provincetown.

The conference takes place on Friday, Saturday & Sunday and then I am staying to take 3 workshops at The Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill.

I will be taking 3 Encaustic workshops:

  • Day of Flames: Fusing w/ the Torch given by artist Lynette Haggard on Monday 6/6
  • Patterned Effects and Visual Texture w/ Encaustic and Mixed Media with artist Gregory Wright on Tuesday

I am so excited !!!

Everything that is new or uncommon raises a pleasure in the imagination,

because it fills the soul with an agreeable surprise,

gratifies its curiosity, and gives it an idea of which it was not before possessed.

It’s spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  ~Mark Twain
